Another day to explore Springfield…

We walked around the historic Railroad Station on our way to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum…

The Museum was high on our list of places to visit…

Here we find Lynda photo-bombing my photo of the Lincoln family in front of the White House…

They had a nice replica of Thomas Lincoln’s cabin, where the young Lincoln lived with his father, step mother, sister Sarah, and two step sisters and two step brothers… Eight people in a room about 15′ x 20′. The display was set up showing the two adults in a tiny bed, the three girls sleeping in a trundle bed, and the three boys in the attic/loft… It had sound effects of snoring. Since I suffer from Misophonia, I could not get out of there fast enough…

After the various displays, movies, extensive exhibits on the Civil War, and, of course, the gift shop, we ventured out to find lunch… What we fould was a giant car show – about 6 square blocks…

The most interesting was this row of Buick Opel GTs, from the early 70s…

After a terrible lunch at a mis-named cocktail lounge (they did not know how to make a whiskey sour or an old fashioned…) we toured the “Old” State Capitol…

It was in service from 1840 to 1876. This is where Lincoln practiced law – filing papers, appearing before the State Supreme Court, etc…

It has a nice dome…

Having maxed out the Springfield experience, we headed back to the Villa. Each day as we have come and gone from the RV park we have driven around the beautiful Lake Springfield. Each time our GPS wants to take a different route, even though we are coming and going from the same places. So we have been around the lake several times. Today it was particularly beautiful. If the weather here were always like this it wouldn’t be a bad place to live…

Back at the Villa we prepared for our departure tomorrow.

Happy Hours ensued and an enjoyable time was had by all…
